Don't Just Accept Any Old Dog Into Your Life!

That's what I'm reminding myself as I move into first gear of  dog walking here at the Petaluma KOA this year. I need something to get me up from "sitting" as I make art and write. So I'm dog sitting/walking for people that want to go into San Francisco for the day.

Daisy spent the day with us last week. She was a piece of cake to have around.
Spending time with dogs fits perfectly into my life, as long as I discriminate on which ones I let in. I don't say that to be prejudiced or mean. I say it because I know how easy it is for me to say "yes" to a pretty face.

Saying yes to every pretty face got me in trouble when I dog walked at the KOA several summers ago. I remember that crazed pup lab that nearly killed me with his antics! His owner told me he was a handful. But I said "No worries! I can handle him." Well he never stopped moving and he was strong! Strong enough to wear me to a frazzle mentally and twist my back with his jerking and pulling.
Raya, the crazed lab pup pushed me over the edge.

So, I've determined this time around that I will say "no" to a dog that is a deadly combination of strong, active, big and untrained. After all, I want to be able to help out with as many dogs as I can. For that I need a healthy body and mind.

So be in touch if you stop at the San Francisco/Petaluma KOA in your travels this spring or summer and need someone to look after your pooch while you tour for the day.
